ImmuniWeb Launches Free Website Privacy Test

April 24, 2024

The free online privacy test allows anyone to verify whether a website complies with the most common best practices and regulations relating to privacy and data protection.

In 2024, privacy becomes one of the hottest topics for individuals, companies and lawmakers. Earlier this month, the US Congress introduced a draft of a new federal law - American Privacy Rights Act (APRA) – designed to, finally, implement a nation-wide, comprehensive and consistent data protection and privacy regime in the US, after years of existence of a complex patchwork of state privacy laws and regulations.

While in Europe, companies paid record fines last year for GDPR-related violations. Most other countries have already introduced, actively work on implementation or enhancements of their national privacy legislation, bringing the total number of sovereign states with privacy or data protection law to over 170 as of April 2024.

In parallel, the rapid proliferation of Generative AI bolsters privacy-related risks when LLM models are trained on vast volumes of unlawfully collected personal data. The EU AI Act partially addresses the most critical privacy concerns of AI, while many countries are developing new AI laws and regulations specifically aimed to restricting the misuse of personal data by existing and emerging AI technologies.

The new privacy test is a part of ImmuniWeb® Community Edition that provides SMBs, universities and small governmental agencies with a free access to foundational cybersecurity, compliance and privacy testing capabilities. Today, the Community Edition runs over 200,000 daily scans during peak days, supporting cybersecurity and data protection efforts of thousands of entities around the globe.

The new test is purposely developed in a jurisdiction neutral manner: its checks and verifications cover specific requirements of the majority of modern privacy, data protection and consumer protection laws in the US, UK, Europe and other regions. Whether you are based in California, London, Geneva or Singapore, the test will bring relevant findings for your national legislation.

The website privacy test runs the following checks:

  • Presence of tracking technologies
  • Presence of third-party content that may have privacy risks
  • Presence of privacy policies and cookies consent banners
  • Presence of tracking, third-party or persistent cookies
  • Presence of other privacy-invasive technologies
  • Presence of proper HTTPS encryption
  • Presence of exposed personal data
  • Presence of web forms

The test usually takes 2-3 minutes to run, depending on the web server speed. In combination with ImmuniWeb’s free website security test, it provides a foundational website security and privacy audit.

Dr. Ilia Kolochenko, Chief Architect & CEO at ImmuniWeb, says: “At ImmuniWeb, we are delighted to serve the cybersecurity community, helping many thousands of organizations and individuals from over one hundred countries to protect their data and reduce data breaches.

The new privacy test elegantly crowns the already existing six free tests, making our Community Edition one of the most comprehensive sets of free online security tools. Importantly, the privacy test provides a foundational privacy and data protection testing: to avoid hefty monetary fines and other legal ramifications, ImmuniWeb has cybersecurity compliance service designed to provide both technical and legal certainty to our customers relating to their cybersecurity and privacy.

We will continue to innovate and bring even more exciting free and commercial products to the market. Many existing news and announcements are coming soon, please stay tuned.
