Advisory Details:

High-Tech Bridge SA Security Research Lab has discovered vulnerabilities in Free Simple CMS which could be exploited to perform cross-site scripting attacks and compromise vulnerable system.

1) Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Free Simple CMS
1.1 The vulnerability exists due to input sanitation error in URL in index.php. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request to the vulnerable script and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in user`s browser in context of the vulnerable website.
Exploitation example:
http://[host]/index.php/%27%3E%3Cscript%3Ealert%28document.cookie%29;%3C/scr ipt%3E
1.2 The vulnerability exists due to input sanitation error in the "db_themes_background_color_page" parameter in themes/default/index.php. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request to the vulnerable script and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in user`s browser in context of the vulnerable website.
Successful exploitation requires that "register_globals" is enabled.
Exploitation example:
http://[host]/themes/default/index.php?db_themes_background_color_page=%22%3 E%3Cscript%3Ealert%28123 %29;%3C/script%3E

The vulnerability exists due to input sanitation error in the "include" parameter in index.php within the reset password functionality. A remote attacker can include and execute arbitrary files on the target system using directory traversal sequences.
Exploitation example:
http://[ host ]/index.php?page=login&request=forgot_password&include=../../../../../../../ ../etc/passwd
